HCS Accountants is headed up by Hazel Smith: a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in the UK and a member of the Association of Accountants and Tax Experts of Spain (AECE).
After graduating with a degree in Economics in 1992, Hazel began her accountancy career firstly as a Management Accountant in large UK blue chip companies, then later in a client practice firm in the South East of the UK.
After a period working for a large cruise line as an onboard accountant, she came to live and work in Spain in 2006. Shortly afterwards she began her career in Denia working for a local Spanish accountancy practice and studying for a Master's degree in Spanish Taxation.
Hazel started HCS Accountants in 2009, specifically to provide professional accountancy and taxation services to the British community living in Denia and the surrounding area.
This quickly grew to HCS Accountants offering more than just tax advice and compliance services. Lexi is a long standing member of the accounts team. She joined HCS Accountants in 2009, and following the completion of her professional qualifications, is now a member of AECE (Association of Accountants & Tax Experts of Spain).
Lexi works with our larger corporate clients, and specialises in the analysis of their accounts and financial matters. Thus, providing them with meaningful information from which to base decision making that drives their businesses forward.
As our in-house payroll advisor, Lexi also works closely with our employment lawyer and payroll team to assist our business clients in all aspects of their Spanish payroll, Social Security and employment law requirements.
Zoryana joined us as our new Trainee Accountant. Originally from Ukraine, she works with our small business clients in the compilation of their quarterly and annual accounts. Zoryana is fluent in English and Spanish, as well as her native Ukrainian language, which has been very valuable in helping our new clients from this part of the world with interests in Spain.
Zoryana also deals with our International Online Seller Clients, managing the VAT registration and ongoing compliance for foreign companies with their obligations in Spain. Liaising with the Spanish tax authorities to complete the requirements for new clients, she then completes the ongoing quarterly VAT filings and compliance.
Ruby joined our team as our client support and general administration manager. She is the sunny voice at the end of our phone, and handles our external correspondence by email, assisting clients with general enquiries and office appointments.
Toby is our office mascot and final important member of the HCS Accountants Team. He is a happy little dog, who greets us all with a wagging tail. He is great for team morale and office security!
José is our Employment Lawyer and part of our team that manages all our clients’ payroll and employee contracts.
He also advises on all Social Security and State Pension matters.
HCS Accountants refers all legal and inheritance tax matters to our Associate Lawyer Raul Laufente Jorge. He is available for client appointments in our Denia office, and being fluent in both English and German, is a valuable asset to our team.
Raul is a general practice lawyer, who regularly represents clients in the courts of Denia and gives personalized consultations for professional legal advice.
He gives inheritance planning, and also executes the estates of our clients after arranging their Spanish wills.
